During the weekend of the 14th of June 2014, the Kilimanjaro Mountain Club organized a trip to the Oldoinyo Lengai-Kerimasi volcanic area in Northern Tanzania. Our director, Ben Beeckmans, volcanologist and member of the club, participated and explained some of the most interesting volcanic structures and deposits of the Natron-Engaruka volcanic field. Highlighted were some of the more spectacular tephra cones and tuff rings, some types of deposits like debris avalanches, even  lake deposits along the Sidan Indare riverbed. As usual, the practicalities of the trip were made possible thanks to the organizational skills of Aat van der Welt.
